Many information technology (IT) companies virtually ignore Washington
as they go about their business. Yet the often volatile politics of such
issues as global sourcing, privacy, security, and spyware, to note just
a few, can have a tremendous impact on industry prospects. To complicate
the situation further, Congress has deferred action on many critical
IT concerns.
In this ITSMA Viewpoint, Harris Miller, president of the Information
Technology Association of America (ITAA),
outlines some of the key issues and dynamics affecting the politics of
IT in Washington. Miller leads ITAA’s public policy focus in areas
such as information security, taxation, workforce, and global sourcing.
He testifies frequently before Congress and state legislatures on numerous
issues and briefs federal, state, and local officials on issues critical
to the IT industry. Miller is also president of the World Information
Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), an “association of associations” representing
60 high-tech trade groups around the world.
