Overview
Business strategy typically puts “profitable growth” as
a primary objective. But in a maturing, competitive market with only
modest levels of growth, figuring out where to focus is a fundamental
challenge. Most important, how strategists choose the most promising
market segments, business lines, customers, partners, and solutions will
determine how well the firm succeeds in finding growth and profits.
Traditional segmentation techniques are useful for beginning to explore
and focus these portfolios. But they're not very good at illustrating
interactions between the different elements, and they only represent
a snapshot in time. More sophisticated techniques can address time horizons
and lifecycle issues. In-depth portfolio analysis requires a multi-layered
approach, bringing together the market view, the commercial view, and
the capability view.
This Inner Circle meeting will explore profitable portfolio management
in detail, examine different techniques and models, and use ITSMA case
studies to illustrate a variety of ways that our members have tackled
the issue.
This invitation-only meeting will provide senior marketing executives a
rare opportunity to discuss challenges with their peers in a comfortable
small-group setting. ITSMA personnel will be on hand to provide additional
expertise and views.

2002-2005, and was a member of the Operating Team for IBM UK from 1995
